Welcoming Alex Amber to the My Later Life Team

We’re delighted to welcome Alex Amber to the My Later Life team.

Alex brings a wealth of experience in equity release, mortgages and financial services, together with the personal, straightforward approach to advice that we believe is so important when helping people make decisions about their finances in later life.

We’re proud to have Alex as part of My Later Life.
With almost a decade specialising in equity release and a much wider career in financial services, Alex brings considerable knowledge and experience to our clients.

Meet Alex Amber

Alex is based in Herefordshire and provides personal equity release advice to clients, including homeowners in and around Bath.

His financial services career spans several decades and includes experience in mortgages, property finance, commercial finance, financial markets and, since 2016, specialist equity release advice.

That broad background means Alex understands that financial decisions rarely sit in isolation. Your home, existing mortgage, retirement income, family and future plans can all form part of the conversation.

Equity release experience: Advising since 2016

Areas of experience: Equity release, lifetime mortgages, residential mortgages, property finance, commercial finance and wider financial services.

Qualified and Experienced in Equity Release

He became fully CeMAP qualified in 2005 before gaining his CeRER equity release qualification in 2016.

Since then, Alex has spent almost a decade working specifically within the equity release market, speaking directly with homeowners and helping them understand the options available to them.

Alex’s Professional Qualifications

  • CeMAP qualified – Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice
  • CeRER qualified – Certificate in Regulated Equity Release
  • Almost 10 years specialising in equity release advice

Almost a Decade Specialising in Equity Release

Alex moved into dedicated equity release advice in 2016 when he joined TRER / Key Retirement Ltd.

He spent more than seven years there advising clients on equity release funding and helping people through the process from their initial enquiry through to completion.

His work included preparing compliant recommendations and illustrations, liaising with lenders and solicitors and, importantly, taking the time to explain the process clearly to clients.

Alex also worked directly with Legal & General at the inception of its equity release offering, giving him further insight into the development of the lifetime mortgage market.

Since November 2023, he has continued working directly with equity release clients as well as developing relationships with professional introducers and supporting clients with estate planning services.

In 2024, Alex was part of the top twenty adviser group for written business.

Experience That Goes Beyond Equity Release

Although equity release has been a major focus of Alex’s career for almost a decade, his financial experience goes much further back.

Between 2002 and 2008, Alex worked in mortgage and business finance, arranging finance for a wide variety of clients.

This included residential mortgages, commercial lending, investment property, development finance and bespoke funding solutions.

Earlier in his career, Alex also spent a number of years working in the City of London financial markets, dealing with banks, corporations and financial institutions in foreign exchange and currency markets.

A Broad Financial Background

Alex’s career has included:

  • Equity release and lifetime mortgage advice
  • Residential mortgage advice
  • Commercial and business finance
  • Property and development finance
  • Credit insurance and risk management
  • Foreign exchange and financial markets
  • Business development and client relationship management

Good Advice Starts With Listening

Experience and qualifications matter, but so does the way an adviser works with their clients.

Alex has spent much of his career building long-term relationships with clients and explaining financial products that can sometimes appear complicated at first.

That fits perfectly with the way we work at My Later Life.

We believe that good equity release advice starts with a conversation. Before discussing products, we want to understand what you are hoping to achieve, your current circumstances and your plans for the future.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to equity release, and it will not be suitable for everyone.

Our job is to explain the options clearly, including the benefits, costs, risks and alternatives, so that you can make an informed decision.

“At My Later Life, we believe good advice should feel personal. We take the time to listen, explain your options clearly and help you understand what those choices could mean for you and your family.”

Welcome to My Later Life, Alex

We’re genuinely pleased to have Alex joining the My Later Life team.

His combination of professional qualifications, almost a decade dedicated specifically to equity release and many years of wider financial services experience brings a great deal of knowledge to our clients.

Most importantly, Alex shares our belief that financial advice should be personal, straightforward and centred around the person sitting in front of us.

Welcome to My Later Life, Alex. We’re proud to have you on the team.
